Primary Selection - Retrieving the shortest bird first

Purpose

- Control at line

- Enhance short bird marking

- keep training alive

- Extra tool to survivie tough tests

Secondary Selection - Retrieving the shortest bird remaining after retrieving the last bird down.

- The dog that is comfortable with secondary selection will be more successful at completing Master level marks

- Secondary selection will help your dog overcome the difficulty of short marks.

Why are short marks difficult?

- In early training we counteract the natural tendancy to hunt short by throwing long marks.

- Too often we emphasize long memory birds with short diversions.

- Force associated with blind retrieves may make your dog reluctant to hunt short.
